45 MPH SPEED LIMIT sign: shot up, cut up, tricked out, "seated" and lit.
One of my shot-up roadsign photographic sculptures
So a representative of the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum www.memphisrocknsoul.org dropped off a retired/surplus chair from Hard Rock Cafe on my front porch. I had accepted a call for artists for the museum's "Musical Chair" art auction. My "shot sign" art (see my set) had nothing to do with music, but I welcomed the challenge. I removed the seat from the chair and then spraypainted the frame/back a metallic silver with an overlay of white, which I sanded down to a chalky screen (borrowed from affected shabby chic). Then I took a fragment from a 45 MPH sign (only the number was left) that I had also shot up with .000 buckshot (12 ga.) I misted the sign with black spraypaint, cut a couple of larger holes in the sign, spray-mounted a facsimilie of a Dusty Springfield single label (Son of a Preacher Man) over one of the large holes, then.....hell, I'm getting tired of writing all the specs. Here's the fun part abou the 35mm slide film mounted underneath the sign:
.45 Rounds pre-Millenialist (R.P.M.), portrays a hero's journey in photographs: Satan has foul plans for Memphis in May, and we're not sure if the Illuminati are for us or against us, and whether all the Left Behind novels are just a smokescreen. At the darkest hour, one of Elvis' "helpers" dons his spangled cape and steps into the fray with the spirit of Dusty Springfield watching over him. But will they be helped, or hurt, by the mysterious Pyramid People?
The piece came with a card bearing the following DISCLAIMER:
