Air-to-air combat between F/A-18Fs, F/A-18Cs and the RMAF aircraft, along with a variety of symposiums took place during the exercise, which was part of the Malaysia phase of the Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) exercise series. CARAT is a regularly scheduled series of bilateral military training exercises with several Southeast Asia nations designed to enhance the interoperability of the respective sea services.
