Wikipedia articles are supposed to be written from a neutral point of view, regarding any relevant aspect of the topic. This also includes appropriate coverage of relevant historical information. However, articles are sometimes biased towards placing undue emphasis on recent events which may be due to a systemic bias. In such cases, this maintenance template can be used to raise awareness of that shortcoming. As with all maintenance templates (also called "tags"), the preferred course of action is to boldly edit and fix the problem rather than slapping a tag on it.
When and where not to use this template
Please be aware that some articles and/or sections are specifically supposed to cover recent events. On such articles, please use {{Current}} instead of this template.
Template {{Update}} is another template with a distinct function, which can be used to mark articles or sections with old or out-of-date information.
Usage
Please do not subst this template.
Place:
{{Recentism}}
at the top of the article page if the entire article is slanted towards recent events, or at the top of the relevant section if the rest of the article properly includes relevant historical information.
Options
You may use the article/section parameter to change the standard wording "article or section" to specifically refer to the article or only a section by using:
{{Recentism|article}}
or:
{{Recentism|section}}
This will not affect the functionality of the template in any way other than making the template text read "This article may be slanted towards recent events." or "This section may be slanted towards recent events.", respectively.
Categorisation
This template places articles into Category:Articles slanted towards recent events, sorted into subcategories by month and year for easier maintenance. To this end, a bot automatically adds the date for each transclusion of the template.
