法韋拉
法韋拉（葡萄牙語：favela，發音：[fɐˈvɛlɐ]）是巴西幾種貧困社區的統稱，其通常建在大城市的郊區，環境惡劣，犯罪猖獗。此外，位於山坡上的法韋拉經常面臨洪水和山泥傾瀉的威脅[1]。
「法韋拉」一詞可以追溯到19世紀末的里約熱內盧[2]。1897年，一些參加過卡努杜斯戰爭的士兵返回里約熱內盧，定居在里約熱內盧市中心的普羅維登西亞山上搭建的臨時建築中[3]。此前服役期間，這些士兵曾駐紮在一個名為「法韋拉山」（Morro da Favela）的山丘。「法韋拉」在葡萄牙語中是櫟葉花棘麻的俗名，這是一種當地常見的大戟科植物，其與皮膚接觸時會引起刺激[3][4][5][6]。當這些士兵返回里約熱內盧並定居在普羅維登西亞山上後，便將該山暱稱為「法韋拉山」[3]。到了20世紀20年代，佈滿棚屋的山丘也開始被稱為「法韋拉」[3]。
大多數現代法韋拉出現在20世紀70年代，原因是當時巴西農村人口外流，許多人離開農村地區，搬進城市。由於找不到住處，許多人住進了郊區[7]。根據巴西國家地理與統計局 (IBGE) 2011年12月發佈的人口普查數據顯示，2010年，巴西約有6%的人口居住在法韋拉和其他貧民窟。巴西5565個市鎮中323個有法韋拉[8]。
