歷史

• 
  維甘歷史古城

在西班牙殖民前，美岸市就已經是南伊羅戈省的政治與經濟中心。

美岸城市保存了16世紀西班牙文化，比如融合亞洲風格與歐洲巴洛克式風格的房屋建築、鵝卵石街道、馬車與西班牙風味的香腸等飲食文化。

在二次大戰時，日本軍隊也曾經從美岸港口登陸，並佔領美岸機場。

1969年，台灣屏東枋山與菲律賓美岸之間，在美軍駐台期間，曾經建立起48路的數位語音差補技術（英語：Digital Speech Interpolation，DSI）地面微波通信電路，每路可供6條電話通話使用。

地理

美岸位處於東經120 23’ 15’’，北緯17 34’ 30’’，菲律賓最大島嶼呂宋島的西北邊，西面臨南海，北邊是距離82公里、屬於北伊羅戈省的菲律賓最北方首府佬沃，南邊離伊羅戈區的省會聖費爾南多 (拉烏尼翁)有138公里，距離南方的馬尼拉大都會有407公里。

地形

美岸大多數為平原，有些許小山丘、竹林與魚池，百分之60的土地作為農業用，百分之32作為住宅區使用，百分之3作為商業與工業用地，百分之1作為政府機構用地。主要的山丘是位於美岸東邊、距離市區10公里的Vigan Gap Hill，美岸北邊有Govantes河流，另外有Bantay與其分支牙伯拉河與Mestizo河，這些河流除了是灌溉美岸農田的水源，在15到19世紀也是美岸商業貿易的重要水上道路。

土壤

對於以農業用地為主的美岸，主要有以下幾種用地：

• Bantay Loam：南方36.67公頃的土地適合畜牧業
• Umingan sandy：1,191.57公頃的土地適合種植蔬菜與稻米
• San Manuel clay loam：1,244.57公頃的土地適合種植香蕉、棉花與蔬菜
• Bantog clay：31.65公頃的陶土土壤適合用來製作陶甕、陶罐
• 海灘沙地：鄰近海邊的土地約7.28公頃適合種植可可亞

交通

• 
  美岸西班牙風格的馬車

美岸市內交通以公車、吉普尼、三輪車與馬車為主，三輪車上的編號，讓乘客知道三輪車的來源城市。其中以下幾家長途客運公車都在美岸市設有車站：

• Inocencio Aniceto Transportation

另外Fariñas Transit Company與Maria de Leon兩家客運公司在美岸沒有車站，只有到北方距離美岸一個半小時車程的佬沃有車站。GV Florida Transport客運的車站則是在美岸市周邊。

對外道路交通有麥克阿瑟高速公路(菲律賓)通往馬尼拉與菲律賓呂宋島各地，

空中交通有美岸機場，美岸機場是南伊羅戈省內唯一的機場，目前航線目的地有巴士古機場與馬尼拉機場。

教育

• 呂宋島北部歷史最悠久的北菲律賓大學

• 位於奎松大道上，原本是一間商店，後來演變為省內第一所資訊技術學院的：Macro Colleges Inc

美岸城市保存了16世紀西班牙文化，市區結構也與歐洲西班牙城鎮般依循18世紀啟用的（西班牙語：Ley de las Indias）規範，其規範重點為城鎮建設必須是棋盤式街道，街道中心必須有廣場或是中央公園。

美岸市有中央公園，公園旁是省會首府行政辦公室、市政廳大樓，市中心也有薩爾賽多廣場（Plaza Salcedo）與布爾戈斯廣場（Plaza Burgos），薩爾賽多廣場（Plaza Salcedo）有噴水池，周邊有美岸大教堂或稱聖保羅大教堂，教堂附屬博物館（Museo San Pablo）與環繞廣場的市集，建築方面是融合亞洲風格與歐洲巴洛克式風格的房屋建築，鵝卵石街道，保留了西班牙時期的馬車作為交通工具，古城區的街道名稱仍沿用西班牙的街道命名，飲食文化上有西班牙風味香腸，店家作息也是西班牙風格，中午會有午休時間。
